When selling any home you should clean up the messes. But for some reason when it comes to estate homes people don't want to do anything. Many people don't want to invest any time or money into a home to get it to sell.
What they don't realize is that they are losing money. It is not unusual for estate homes to be Fixer-uppers. Many times they end up selling below fair market value because there is so much work needed. So my advice to you is to step back and evaluate the home. Sometime simple low cost repairs can bring up the value of the house. It can put more money into your pocket.

your local Metro Detroit Realtor helping clients like you sell and buy homes through out the entire Metro Detroit suburbs. I love showing and selling Oakland County and Livingston County Lake front homes too.
Russ: I've noticed that to be true in this area as well. Btter to have the tag sale and donate any unsold items before putting the home on the market as well.
The Hendersonville area has a very large retirement community and quite often we run into this issue. The families are out of state and don't have the resources or time to deal with many of the issues. Quite often we end up scheduling for cleaning out the homes, etc. I have even found myself toting cleaning supplies and washing windows so I could get pictures. I don't clean or wash windows at my own house!! I have a wonderful woman who comes to assist in the area every other week.

Russ, I hate to say this but sometimes the Exector's and Executrix's just have plain greed. They don't want to spend their inheritance.
Russ, I couldn't agree more. A lot of the investing is sweat equity spent in cleaning, sorting and tossing. Home Gain stats show how updates can reap profits. Paint, lighting, flooring etc can make a big difference.
Russ, sellers not wanting to invest time/effort or money ARE losing.
Real Estate guru Barbara Corcoran says: "For every dollar you don't spend (on preparing the home for sale) you lose three."
Good enough reason to call in someone (like a stager) to oversee getting the necessary work done if they are not able or willing to do it themself!
All the best for your cancer walk in October.
Sometimes it is the emotional effort they don't want to invest.
