Susan G Komen 3 day walk

They are doing the Susan G Komen 3 day cancer walk in Metro Detroit yesterday, today and ending tomorrow.

The Campsite is at Rotary Park in Livonia MI.

rotary park 3 day cancer walk

Thousands of Metro Detroit women and men come together, each raising money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. Then they take their commitment to end breast cancer one step further and walk 60 miles over the course of three days.

My wife has had three bouts with cancer over the last 18 years.  She is always happy to see this walk go on.  She can barely walk a mile let alone the 60 miles.

In order to participate each walker has to raise $2200 in order to walk.  A tremendous committment for each walker both phsically and financially.  Three cheers for these women.

Eighty-five percent of the net proceeds of this event go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Every advancement in breast cancer research, treatment, education and prevention in the last 25 years has been touched by a Komen for the Cure grant.Rotary Park Livonia Mi

The remaining fifteen percent of net funds goes to the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund to provide a permanent endowment for ongoing support of breast cancer initiatives.

Even the trash cans are pink.   Http://www.russravary.com

Thousand of women and some men dressed in pink are walking the streets of Livonia Mi today and tomorrow.  So cheer them on and watch out for them when turning when you are in Livonia.

Russ,

God bless you and your wife...this is such an important thing you are doing...and we need to keep doing it...We even have our students at school get involved here. They're allowed to have "jeans day" on Friday...when they pay $3 and it goes to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The kids get so involved...and they always want to do MORE...you can never be too young to start helping...

This is a fantastic cause and my wife and daughter both walked in our walk 2 years ago. I watched as people crossed the end of the walk and I was really moved at the end. Thank Russ for the post...

Russ - Thank you for the post and thank you to all those women!  I am a three year survivor of breast cancer.  I was 42 years old when I was diagnosed.  Every year we have one of the biggest walks in the country across the river in St Louis, MO.  I go and walk/run and there is one spot when you come to the top of a hill and look down at a sea of pink.  I cry at this spot each time.  To have that many people together for one cause is incredible.  I hope they soon find a cure for not only breast cancer but for all cancers!  They have come a long way and it keeps getting better!

Congratulations Russ.   Your participation and that of everyone is needed to put this terrible disease in the history books.   Money raised goes to so many areas associated with breast cancer and its badly needed.   I'm sure I speak for all when I say our hearts and prayers are with you and your wife.  This is a very worthwhile two day event.

Hi Russ, this walk has a personal issue for you and your wife.  I lost my mother-in-law some 20 years ago to breast cancer.  Great photos and a nice tribute to the cure Russ.

RUSS Thanks for this post, it means a LOT to some of us here on AR.  My mom just found out that she has Breast Cancer for the SECOND time, and I myself have been considering doing the 3 day walk....I think I just might HAVE to do it for her!  GOD Bless you and your wife and all the other men and women dedicating so much to this cause!

Russ,

Thanks for highlighting this walk/run.  It's such a worthy cause.  I have an aunt who is a brest cancer survivor as well as a very close friend.  My father is also a cancer survivor. God Bless you for bringing this to the forefront in people's minds.
