Farmington Hills Real Estate and Events talk Michigan

Dear Oprah,

I know this might sound like a letter to Santa but we need you to act.  You cried when Barack got elected but it doesn't really matter who got elected.  Our elected officials can only do so much.  Our nation's economy depends on you Oprah!  Did you know that?

There is no way any bank bailout is going to save the nation.  All these pet programs like NAR's housing stimulus program or the union's save a job program is not going to jump start the the economy.  Sure it might help that sector or save a few jobs in real estate or in the unions.  We need consumers to start spending.

But that is not going to happen.  Consumers are cutting back because they are afraid.  But most of all many consumers have lost income.  Builders, bank people,Contractors, title people, mortgage people are spending less.  Which trickles down to restaurants, stores, and everything else in this nation.  Right now we are in a downward spiral, less spending, more people lose jobs, less money to spend, more people lose jobs.  We have to stop this.

So Oprah it is up to you and all the rich people in this nation.  We need you to spend more money than normal.  We need Buffett, Gates, rich actors, actresses, musicians, and sports stars to spend more money in the US.  Spend more money on US products and services.  We need Britney Spears, Michael Jordan, Tim McGraw, Madonna, Peyton Manning, and all those extremely high paid CEO's to start spending more.

Quit socking away all your money.  Spend some of it.  Spend more of it than usual.  If you and every rich person spent more money it would be an economic stimulus program that the government could not match.  With what you (Oprah Winfrey) are doing and what the government officials are doing it would turn the economy before a depression hits.

More gifts for the poor for Christmas, buy food, build a building, buy some land and plant some trees, build something that is needed.  Pay to have some homes renovated here in the US.  Put people to work.  Buy the paint and pay the painters to cover up the graffiti.  Pay people to pick up trash.  There are hundreds and thousands of people that need work.  Make a true impact on this nation.  It is up to you to help Obama get the nation back on track.

He can't do it alone.  We need spending.  We need people to have jobs.  You have friends that can make a difference.  People will work hard.  Help get the nation back on track Oprah!!!!!

We need everyone to get on their knees and start asking God for help.

This reminds me a bit of 9-11 when people stopped going out and buying anything. The result was total devastation, economically. At the Fisherman's Whaft in San Fancisco, whenever we went out to dinner, it was like a ghost town. The few waiters who were still working were so happy to see anyone walk in.

Retail therapy helps....but I'm not going to get the credit card purchases get out of control either.  I'm doing my part!

You make a great point, Russ.  How can we get Oprah to read this???  We have some fantastic real estate deals in my town right now and consumers are afraid to buy.  We do need someone to loosen up the purse strings.

I agree we need those with the money to spend.  I don't that Oprah is the person that will motivate our Country but I do think those that have been blessed should help in any way possible and take the load off those struggling and doing everything they possibly can to get ahead.

Why should those who have worked their way up from not much to super stardum have to help everyone else out?  This is exactly what Obama was talking about when he was saying we need to "spread the wealth around."  No wonder these people are hoarding their money, if I were them I would too, because who knows what kind of taxes they are going to owe once Obama gets his say...

Russ, I agree there is a confidence problem. And nothing helps people's confidence like steady income. Losing one's job and as more and more lose them, will not help. Employers need to grow businesses and HIRE.

Russ Oprah had a show the other day about "Paying it Forward" where her show members went out and gave away free Cash to people on the Streets! I usually dont watch Oprah (what normal healthy male would admit it?) but my girlfriend does!

Good Morning Russ... I do not know if that is the answer. I do agree that bailing outs are not the answer. Spending is. But with the economy in the shape that it is, who wants to spend? Rich or poor, we are all in this same boat...

Hopefully you sent that email to Oprah, Bill, Warren, Brad & Angelina, etc.

I could never have a billion dollars because by the end of the year, I would have given $999,000,000 away.

I think every American should agree that being paid more than $500,000 per year is excessive and give the rest back to the economy. But who am I to say?
